The Path of Integrity: The Reflective Process
Following my own periods of prayer, these prayers and mandalas were developed through contemplation and meditation. I chose the poetic structure of haikus to reflect more deeply on social themes and the importance of nonviolence as a way of life. I drew the circular images of mandalas to help place you in your spiritual journey towards wholeness with God in the midst of all of creation.
In adapting the process of Lectio Divina used with Scripture reflection, your reflective process may consider the following:
- Read the line of each verse reflectively and try to enter into the scene of the mandala.
- Meditate by choosing a word in the poem or image in the mandala to contemplate on more deeply. Think about what this experience means to you and how you feel it relates to your life.
- Pray from your heart, sharing with God what is going on inside of you during this time. This is an opportunity to express the thoughts, feelings, and insights that you are having.
- Contemplate God’s loving presence. Be conscious of what is happening. Be still and open to the presence of the Spirit. Simply be open to the loving presence of God. You may feel drawn to express this moment by writing your own haiku or drawing your own mandala.
- Act in transformative ways by reaching out to others from your own integrity. Here you can honor your uniqueness and know you are alone with God. As your day unfolds, remember this conversation and let it bring a transforming presence into your journey of the day. Know that one of the hallmarks of contemplation is nonviolence.
- Review with God the experience of your day. Respond in whatever way is natural for you.
In gratitude for all that you are doing to make this world a better place.
